Founded in 1982 by Su Schnee and Daniel Dion, OBORO began as a platform for artists to offer resources and services to the artistic community in Montreal. Over the years, OBORO evolved into a dynamic hub for exhibitions, performances, residencies, and special events.
In 1992, OBORO relocated to its current address at 4001 Berri, providing a space more conducive to the production and presentation of visual, media, interdisciplinary, and performing arts. Recognizing the growing importance of new technologies, OBORO established the New Media Lab in 1995 to support activities in this field.
Boasting a state-of-the-art facility completed in 2004, the New Media Lab at OBORO has become a prominent center for art production and dissemination in Montreal and Canada. With a wide array of studios and resources available to artists and the public, OBORO continues to foster creativity and innovation in a space inspired by the concept of transformation and renewal.
