Autry Greer and Sons helped develop the cash and carry food store concept. The company started in 1916 with one store in downtown Mobile, Alabama. Self-service followed and evolved into the modern supermarket. The firm operates more than 36 stores under the Food Tiger or Greer s name and in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. Greers also operates a complete distribution center that supplies the company owned stores with meat, produce, dairy, frozen food, health, beauty aids and groceries.
