Founded in 1931, Birmingham International Airport is a provider of aircraft transportation services. The facility is served by runways that are capable of accommodating most modern air carrier, cargo transport, general aviation and military aircraft that operate in the United States, Canada and South America. It offers services through more than five airlines, including American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and America West. The airport operates through 15-plus gates and hosts more than 130 flights per day. The facility provides nonstop and indirect, domestic services to 2.5 million-plus passengers each year.
