Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, located in Tucson, Ariz., is a private, nonprofit organization that works for the conservation of the Sonoran Desert. It conducts research on land, plants and the animals of the Sonoran Desert region. Its facility includes a zoo, natural history museum and a botanical garden. Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum conducts various programs, including educational programming for the community, conservation of the Sonoran Desert environment, maintenance and improvement of the museum's collections of live plants, animals and natural history collections and the research and advancing scientific understanding of the desert. Its museum has a collection of nearly 300 animal species and more than 1,000 kinds of plants. The museum is accredited by the American Zoological Association and the American Association of Museums.
