The Employment Development Department, governed by the State of California, is one of the largest state departments that has been operational for more than 70 years. It operates an online job and resume bank, CalJOBS, which features several job openings and information on prospective candidates in the state. The department administers federally funded work force investment programs for adults, dislocated workers and youths. It also assists disadvantaged recipients in becoming self-sufficient. The Employment Development Department supports several state activities and benefit programs by collecting and administering employment-related taxes. It maintains employment records for over 17 million workers. The department s work force services branch operates one of the largest public employment service operations in the world and administers a job service program.
