Jess Mandel, MD, is a board -certified pulmonologist who treats patients with a variety of respiratory conditions. His interests include pulmonary vascular disease, critical care medicine, and pulmonary vascular malformations such hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia a disorder that affects blood vessels . He has treated many patients with COVID -19 and led efforts to assist health care professionals in Tijuana during the pandemic. As the Kenneth M. Moser Professor of Medicine at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Mandel trains medical students, residents and fellows. He has authored two textbooks and a number of scholarly articles related to pulmonary and critical care medicine as well as medical education. Dr. Mandel is also chief of the Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Division and serves as vice chair for education in the Department of Internal Medicine. In this capacity he oversees the educational program for medical students. Dr. Mandel completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Brigham Women's Hospital in Boston. He did his residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, where he served as chief resident. He earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
