The Los Angeles County Department of Coroner is responsible for the investigation and determination of the cause and manner of violence and unusual deaths. It serves the needs of the residents of Los Angeles County in California. The department s administrative services division is responsible for financial operations, departmental budget preparation, payroll, litigation, procurement, accounting, revenue collection, marketing and volunteer services. The Los Angeles County Department of Coroner s forensic medicine division specializes in the areas of neuropathology, archeology, odontology, anthropology, anesthesiology, pediatrics, surgery, ophthalmologic and pulmonary pathology. It is approved by the California Medical Association for Continuing Medical Education and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
