The Pacific Section of the Society for Sedimentary Geology (PS-SEPM) is a prominent geological society based in southern California. It covers the Pacific states of California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii, as well as parts of Arizona and Nevada. With a mission to disseminate information on sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology, and other related fields, PS-SEPM attracts members from around the world and offers discounts on field-trip guidebooks and special publications.
Established by a group of six faculty members, including the late Professor Robert E. Garrison, the PS-SEPM has played a significant role in the development of the Earth Sciences Board at UC Santa Cruz. Professor Garrison, a renowned figure in California geology, made substantial contributions to the understanding of sedimentary rocks, particularly the Monterey Formation. The society continues to honor his legacy and provides a platform for students, researchers, and professionals to share their work and insights in the field of sedimentary geology.
