Founded in 1985 and located in La Jolla, Calif., San Diego Supercomputer Center enables international science and engineering discoveries through improvement in computational science and high-performance computing. The center is a strategic resource to science, industry and academia, offering information in the areas of data management, grid computing, bioinformatics and geoinformatics, high-end computing, and other science and engineering disciplines. It provides various tools, such as hardware technologies, integrating software technologies and inter-disciplinary information. The center is a research unit of the University of California, San Diego, serving researchers throughout the world. The center offers more than 26 teraflops of computing power for its users, with over one petabyte of online disk and six petabytes of archival tape storage. It works with scientists and engineers for developing cyber infrastructure-enabled applications to manage large data. The center also offers support services, including code optimization, training, 24-hour helpdesk services, and portal development services.
