During Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the windows of the lighthouse were damaged and were replaced with funds provided by a friend of Honeywell.

Honeywell had never thought to tell the Lighthouse Service about his little project so they made him shut it down.

Cannon in front of the Boca Chita Lighthouse on the harbor was fired as a welcome gesture to the guests of the island.

A 65-foot lighthouse is present on the key.

The lighthouse was never meant to guide ships to safe passageways yet draws them instead to the beauty and wonders of the park.
