The Honolulu Police Department, established in 1932, is a nationally accredited law enforcement agency. Its jurisdiction includes the city and county of Honolulu. The agency s traffic division includes a vehicular homicide section that investigates motor vehicle collision cases that involve death, critical injury and felony traffic crimes. The Honolulu Police Department s communications division is responsible for planning, organizing and operating a centralized communication system within the department. Its human resources division is responsible for recruiting, screening and hiring new employees; addressing labor relation issues; equal employment opportunity investigations; and coordinating hepatitis and drug urinalysis screening programs. The Honolulu Police Department is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and has an office in Pearl City, Hawaii.
