Richmond City Police Department s mission is to achieve law enforcement excellence while serving the community. The department is also committed to the enforcement of laws to protect life and property, while respecting individual rights, human dignity and community values. The Richmond City Police Department has several divisions that include community policing, crime lab, computer forensics, investigative services, patrol records division, traffic safety, water rescue team, youth services and K-9 patrol. The Richmond Police Department police lab is responsible for photographing, collecting, identifying, packaging and storing evidence from major crime scenes. In addition, the police lab is responsible for safely storing found or recovered property until the rightful owner can be located. The patrol division is responsible for responding to all emergency calls, calls for assistance and other non-emergency situations requiring police assistance.
