Founded in 2005, LS9 is a privately held, San Francisco-based industrial biotechnology company that develops UltraClean fuels and sustainable chemicals. The company has developed the Renewable Petroleum technology, which efficiently and economically produce DesignerBiofuels products by the fermentation of renewable feedstocks. It works in partnership with Procter & Gamble Company. LS9 has also discovered and engineered a new class of enzymes and their associated genes to efficiently convert fatty acids into hydrocarbons. The company manages a pilot facility that produces UltraClean fuels, which feature higher energetic content than ethanol and butanol, as well as can go directly into vehicles without engine modifications.
