Maine Turnpike Authority is a quasi-state agency created by the Maine Legislature in 1941. Based in Maine, it constructs, manages and operates the 109-mile, toll highway from Kittery to Augusta. Completed in 1947, the Maine Turnpike is the second superhighway built in the United Sates. It offers traveler services, such as service plazas, turnpike map, safety tips, transportation alternatives and truck stop electrification. In addition, the agency provides traffic cams, E-Z pass and construction/travel advisories.
