SunTrust Banks, Inc. formed in 1985 after Trust Company of Georgia and SunBanks, Inc. of Florida merged. Each had a well-established history of its own, with numerous locations in the southeast. As the chain expanded up the east coast, all of its locations took on the official SunTrust Bank name in 1995. Most of the SunTrust Banks are situated in Florida, Georgia and in the Maryland/Virginia areas.
