Object Computing, Inc ( OCI ) is a company of software engineers and was founded by Ebrahim Moshiri, Ph. D. in 1993. OCI 's roots were as a provider of object oriented mentoring and educational services, with a strong focus on the practical, to a large St. Louis-based organization. With the growing recognition of the power of OO, OCI was able to quickly expand its service offerings and its client base, both within St. Louis and beyond. Consulting became a significant part of our business as many clients migrated both their staff skills and their systems, from procedural programming to that of object oriented.In 1998, Sun awarded OCI one of the first designations in the country as a Sun Authorized Java Center, in recognition of our leadership in the early adoption of Java.Knowledge transfer is considered a core OCI competency and a key part of our strategy in building long term relationships with clients and their staff. OCI encourages a culture of continuous learning through lunch 'n learns, study groups, free tuition for in-house classes, supported tuition at local universities, and via active participation, sponsorship and leadership in local user groups.Also in 1998, OCI opened its Phoenix office to better serve a client base that had been established in that area. Additionally, OCI embarked on a line of business that involved development and support of an emerging model of software development, known as open source. OCI joined the Object Management Group ( OMG ) to more fully participate in the development of standards that would encourage the growth of open systems in an increasingly wired world. OCI 's open source solutions are standards-based and focused on infrastructure in demanding circumstances. By using open source, OCI engineers can leverage well understood software patterns that have been honed over the years, reflect best practices, and are often implemented in multiple languages to enable reuse on a massive scale. OCI can quickly develop systems to the point where new value is being added for clients as the system is tailored to suit their unique needs. OCI works with clients, when developing open source solutions, to ensure that they too feel that sense of ownership and community that is the hallmark of open source development models. The rapid and wide acceptance of open source has validated OCI 's belief that large scale, cost effective, robust middleware systems are best developed with open standards based software.The industries that were amongst the earliest adopters of open source for mission critical systems were Defense and Telco. Many of OCI 's first global clients were in those market segments. More recently, global financial companies have recognized that their high performance systems could also benefit by adopting a similar approach. OCI has developed open source solutions that are specific to finance and has seen a broadening of its client base.OCI has now set its sights on healthcare as the next industry that could see dramatic improvements in interoperability between caregivers and substantial reduction in costs if that industry were to use open source in a strategic manner.To partner with clients, in developing solutions for their most demanding mission critical systems, by leveraging our deep experience in software and systems engineering.
