The Animal Welfare Coalition (AWC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2008 by dedicated local citizens in Las Vegas, New Mexico, with the aim of addressing the mistreatment and neglect of cats and dogs in the area. Over the years, the AWC has earned the trust of the community through their efforts in providing pet food, affordable spay and neuter services, and rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding forever homes for sick, injured, and abandoned animals.
Having successfully managed the city animal shelter for a decade, the AWC significantly improved the level of care provided to every animal that entered the facility, resulting in an impressive average live release rate of 92%. Although they no longer rescue or board animals, the AWC has recently undergone restructuring and identified the pressing need for affordable spay and neuter services in the community. Their new vision is to promote humane animal welfare throughout Northeastern New Mexico, while their mission is to serve as a resource for promoting compassionate care, humane principles, and the prevention of animal cruelty through various programs and educational opportunities.
