Port Jefferson Recreation Department
In 2005 Port Jefferson opened its Village Center, situated on a corner of the new Harborfront Park. A spacious and sparse design in the renovated structure brings a modern touch to the historic building, first used as a ship's store as far back as 1898. Red brick starkly contrasts a glass and metal façade and white painted architectural details inside. The Port Jefferson Village Center houses the offices of the Port Jefferson Recreation and Parks Department on the second floor. The Center is primarily for community and cultural events like concerts, classes, art shows and fitness programs. There's always something taking place that residents and non-residents alike can enjoy. From mid-November to mid-March, folks can ice-skate at The Rinx at Harborfront Park while taking in a view of the Long Island Sound. There are also rooms to rent for private affairs and corporate events of all sizes (although one room is temporarily occupied by the Children's Maritime Museum until construction on its usual home is completed).
