On the cusp of opening at the tail end of 2012, Superstorm Sandy's surge nearly wiped out this tiny restaurant mere moments before it had a chance to shine. After an expensive and arduous rebuild made possible by Kickstarter backers, begging, borrowing and pleading, Grindhaus finally opened to critical acclaim (2 stars from New York Times) and has been turning on locals and intrepid souls trekking to Red Hook in search of a setting more unique and cozy than any other restaurant around. It doesn't hurt that our creative and approachable food prepared by chef Kevin Speltz changes periodically with weekly specials. Fear not! We always have the excellent, freshly ground burger available!
