The Detective Division, managed by Poughkeepsie Police Department, is staffed with investigators, detective sergeants and civilian staff members. It is organized into an investigation unit and active juvenile aid bureau and is located in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The division conducts secondary investigations on felony cases. The Detective Division also participates in hostage negotiation programs and works with other law enforcement entities on local and federal levels. Poughkeepsie Police Department is a full-time civil service department that provides safety and security to nearly 42,000 residents and patrols approximately 145 miles of road. It is spread across an area of more than 20,000 square feet and operates patrol, communications, traffic, identification and technical divisions.
