The Fire Prevention Bureau educates the citizens of Ohio about preventing fire. It promotes good fire and life safety practices for individuals, homes and businesses. The bureau also offers fire safety programs for hospitals and assisted living facilities, as well as school children in kindergarten through grade six. The Fire Prevention Bureau issues decals for public safety vehicles. It provides online fire prevention information and general fire safety tips. The bureau offers training related to the handling of lifts and fire extinguishers. The Fire Prevention Bureau is a part of the Division of State Fire Marshal, which is involved in the research, regulation and enforcement of fire safety and prevention programs. The Division of State Fire Marshal, governed by the state of Ohio, supports law enforcement, health and public works departments by providing weapon training services and personnel protection equipment. The division is also responsible for modernizing, promulgating and enforcing fire codes, and investigating the causes and origins of fire and explosions.
