The State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio is a public pension fund that serves more than 445,000 active, inactive and retired public educators of the state. It operates under the guidelines of the Ohio Revised Code as enacted by the Ohio General Assembly. The fund is legally separate from and fiscally independent of state and local governments. It is funded through investments and contributions made by members and their employers, including city and local school districts, county educational service centers, exempted village districts, vocational and technical schools, colleges, universities, and county boards of mental retardation and developmental disabilities. The fund offers several group educational programs. Its information booths offer information on various topics, such as survivor benefits, disability protection, health care and social security.
