Deschutes County s Public Works Department, located in Bend, Ore., offers a wide range of programs and services. It develops, operates and maintains the county s road system, and is also responsible for maintaining and improving more than 830 miles of county roads, as well as over 60 bridges. Other than routine road and bridge maintenance, it also responds to emergency road hazards and natural disasters. The department additionally provides recycling and waste reduction and recycling collection services, paint recycling and preparing materials for recycling, and garbage removal. Its Adopt -A- Road program is to provide citizens an opportunity to control roadside garbage and improve the appearance of the roads through a managed program.
