Started in 1920, Genuardi's is a chain of supermarket stores providing shopping experience through its network of 40 Genuardi's stores. In 1990, it expanded and added several innovative amenities, such as food courts with a wide array of freshly prepared foods, in-store cafes and in-store banks. The chain of stores offers a variety of brands for everyday essentials, such as milk and paper towels to specialty items, such as gourmet coffee and organic lasagna. Genuardi's operates as a division of Safeway Inc., which runs more than 1,700 stores across the United States and Canada and is one of the largest food and drug retailers throughout North America based on sales.
