Shady Side Academy, established in 1883, is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school providing education to students in grades kindergarten to 12. The academy comprises junior, middle and high schools. Its middle school offers various courses, including math, English, arts, social studies and science. It also offers a wide range of college preparatory, honors and advanced placement courses at the senior level in various subjects, including calculus, French, Spanish and German. Its performing arts programs comprise musical concerts, theatrical works, dance and drama. It also provides the Extended Day and After School Discovery Program in which children are provided snacks and special activities. The libraries of the school offer newspapers, full-text database and Internet access. Its 5-Day Boarding Program provides adult supervision, assistance from teachers, access to various facilities, learning resources and teachers, life skills programs, and cultural and event excursions.
