Community First Health Plans was established in 1995, by the University Health System to provide health care coverage to the citizens of Bexar County, Texas. It is a locally owned and operated, nonprofit health maintenance organization located in San Antonio. The organization is licensed to provide HMO coverage to employer groups that have at least two employees. In partnership with Texas True Choice, it provides preferred provider organization plans to employer groups of two employees and above. It also offers a full range of government products that cover more than 110,000 lives in the south Texas region. Community First Health Plans is a Medicaid managed care program.
