Born and raised in South Africa, Dr. Nixon moved to the United States with his family at the age of 14. He attended high school in Huntsville, Alabama, and later graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Earning a medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine, Dr. Nixon received additional training in ophthalmology while studying in Zurich, Switzerland, before completing his internship at the Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. His ophthalmology residency program was held at the renowned Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital in Birmingham, one of the nation's leading facilities for treating traumatic eye injuries.
