Peter Chen, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatric cardiovascular surgeon specializing in complex and chronic heart conditions and diseases. His clinical interests include complex neonatal heart disease, single ventricle palliation, pediatric and adult congenital heart disease, pediatric heart failure, and minimally invasive approaches to congenital heart surgery. He’s board-certified in thoracic surgery and completed a research fellowship studying outcomes after congenital heart surgery and another fellowship in congenital cardiac surgery. Chen is an assistant professor of cardiovascular surgery at the UTHealth Houston Children’s Heart Institute. He remains actively involved in mentoring medical students and residents while continually advancing surgical education. His research interests include tissue-engineered heart valves, regenerative medicine, cerebral and myocardial protection, surgical outcomes after congenital heart surgery, and the development of innovative surgical techniques.
