ICON's roots date back to 1977, when two Utah State University business majors, Scott Watterson and Gary Stevenson, began a small import company. Their company, Weslo, manufactured mini-trampolines and created ProForm Fitness as an additional brand name. Weslo expanded and began including a diverse selection of home fitness products. Part of the original company was sold in 1985, then again in 1988 to Weider Health & Fitness. Through each sale, Watterson remained ICON's chief executive officer and chairman and Stevenson remained the chief operating officer and president. In 1994, Watterson, Stevenson and other executives teamed with Bain Capital of Boston to form ICON Health & Fitness.With over 4,200 employees and 11 locations around the globe, ICON Health & Fitness is far and away the largest manufacturer and marketer of home fitness equipment worldwide. As one of the first U.S. fitness companies to venture into the international arena, ICON has facilities located in China, Europe, Canada, and the United States.
