What drew me to hematology was the variety of diseases I treat and the chance to interact with people from across the healthcare spectrum. For some hematologic diseases, we care for people throughout their lives; for others, it's just a few consultations. Both scenarios provide an opportunity to diagnose, treat and educate people. Hematology is also an area where we often look at a lot of data, but I tailor my approach to the person before me rather than relying on something that's one-size-fits-all. I want to understand a person's experiences, expectations, and goals so that I can do my best to address their questions while providing the best care. The relationship between patient and health care provider is deeply rewarding. I want my patients to know they have a provider that cares about them, listens to them, and helps them understand what I am doing to help manage their condition and why.
