West Virginia State Parks is a city department that provides recreational opportunities for people of all ages, as well as maintains various park facilities and historic cemeteries in West Virginia. It offers a range of recreational, educational and nature-based programs and activities, such as swimming, fishing, horseback riding, picnicking, games, hiking, bicycling, hunting and golfing. The department offers several packages and discounts throughout the year, including lodge discount, golf, outdoor adventure, cabin, honeymoon, spa, anniversary and specialty packages. It additionally conducts a range of events, including wildflower walks, historical reenactments, wedding receptions, writing and photography workshops, live music performances, dinner theaters, art and craft making and entertainment shows. The department operates a volunteer program, Adopt-a-Trail, which is sponsored by the Division of Natural Resources to improve the quality of park environment and increase public awareness about the importance of litter control.
